From workshop activities to real world media experiences!

This July, our students took part in Seithi Mediacorp’s Tamizhil Yosi Tamizhil Vaasi (தமிழில் யோசி, தமிழில் வாசி – Empower Youngsters with News Translation), an interactive workshop that gave them a chance to explore the world of Tamil news and media. Through translation activities and news based games, they learnt to translate news from English to Tamil while developing their language skills, creativity and confidence in communicating across languages.
The experience extended beyond the workshop, with Gayathri Suresh Hari Sugaritha (403) gaining first hand exposure to Tamil media through a television interview on Thaalam and a live radio interview with Oli 968, where she also read a short news segment.
Participating in this competition was an entirely new experience for me. I was taught some skills relating to news translation from English to Tamil and was asked to immediately do some hands-on practice and quizzes for their selection. For the finals, I had to perform an on-the-spot news report. Having no prior experience in some of the tasks we were asked to complete, I was left little time to learn these skills and execute them. Yet, due to my resilience and my deep-rooted love for the Tamil Language, I was able to apply my own knowledge and clinch 2nd place in this prestigious competition. It was my great honour to do a television interview for Thaalam which was telecasted on Seithi Mediacorp, as well as a live radio interview for Oli 96.8.— Sugaritha
We are proud of how our students put their learning into practice and took on the challenge, with Sugaritha placing 2nd, Tharista Selvaraju (407) placing 5th, and Gandikota Padmanabhan Madhushri (402) and Miruthula kamalakannan (407) receiving Consolation Prizes. Well done also to Niveditha Aravindhan (408) for being part of the experience!
