Student Well Being & Support

The objectives of student well-being and support are to provide care across three tiers:
Tier 1: School-wide Well-being Support
The Filiae Centre promotes student well-being through school-wide initiatives, and educational and career guidance programmes that help students build self-awareness, resilience, and lifelong wellness practices. One such programme is the CareShare Series, which is run across all year levels and facilitated by the Peer Helpers. Through classroom-based sessions, students develop skills to better understand themselves, relate to others, and build healthy intra- and interpersonal relationships..
Tier 2: Focused Group Support through Thrive Sessions
The Filiae Centre also empowers students to grow holistically through Thrive Sessions, which include focused small-group workshops, programmes, and activities. These include:
-
ChillArt Rainforest: A learning experience using different forms of art to support self-compassion and self-awareness
-
Emotional Regulation Skills Support Group
-
Hangout with the Peer Helpers: Small group activities such as study sessions, movie screening and discussions led by our Peer Helpers and supervised by the Filiae Centre Staff
-
Slumber Par-tea: A sleep education workshop aimed at fostering better sleep quality and healthy rest habits
Tier 3: Individual Counselling Support
The counsellors from the Filiae Centre provide individual counselling and personalised support for students who may need assistance with social-emotional development and/or learning differences.
Through these tiers, the Filiae Centre aims to nurture a caring school community by offering life-coaching opportunities and equipping students, teachers, and parents with skills to support one another.

Peer Helpers

Trained by the school counsellors, the Peer Helpers are a passionate group of students who play a crucial role in supporting their peers through their RGS journey. They contribute to a caring and inclusive school environment by reaching out to students who may benefit from additional support and connection. Peer Helpers are also involved in Tier 1 and Tier 2 support programmes, including small-group activities and outreach initiatives, under the guidance of the Filiae Centre staff. In addition, they support the wider school community by creating educational videos, resources, and materials that promote student well-being.
Peer Coaches
Besides speaking with counsellors, students at RGS also have the option of speaking with a Peer Coach as part of the Filiae Centre’s Tier 3 support. Peer Coaches are selected from student leaders and Peer Helpers who have undergone training in solution-focused coaching skills and techniques. They also receive supervision from a school counsellor. Peer coaching sessions are not counselling sessions, but they provide a structured space for students to explore academic-related matters, personal goals, and areas of growth. Through these conversations, Peer Coaches support their coachees in setting SMART goals and identifying practical steps forward.
