Total Defence Day 2026
To mark Total Defence Day, RGS organised a simulated disruption exercise where students experienced a school day without electricity or digital connectivity. The activity offered a glimpse into the challenges people may face during times of crisis, encouraging students to reflect on resilience and adaptability.
Lessons continued across the campus using natural light and outdoor spaces, where students gathered in groups to work through themed quizzes and worksheets about the significance of Total Defence. Through these interactive activities, students explored Singapore’s history while learning about the values behind this important national observance.
Students from Food and Design brought the experience to life by preparing dishes over charcoal fires outdoors. Huddling over their personal cooking pans, students experimented with their own menu of Cheesy Gim satay, army stew and even toasted marshmallow treats.
Year 1 students also took part in a series of Total Defence station games led by the school’s Uniformed Group CCAs. These activities challenged participants to work together and think on their feet, from navigating obstacles while blindfolded to testing their precision in cup-shooting challenges.
By stepping outside their usual routines, students developed a deeper appreciation for preparedness, teamwork and resilience—values that lie at the heart of Total Defence.
